We recently celebrated our second wedding anniversary at Michelin-starred restaurant Alimentum in central Cambridge. Alimentum is a gourmet continental restaurant renowned for its slow cooking ethos and chef’s tasting menu, serving amazing dishes while remaining unpretentious and affordable.

We started our meal with seaweed crisps and cheese balls – an innovative combination of simple flavours with fun textures. It looks scary but tasted pretty good.

For starter we went for the chicken breast with liver parfait, grape and fennel; a wild combination that set the tone for the rest of the meal.

The lamb rump was paired with coffee and it surprisingly works well, the combination compliments each other perfectly. Salmon was another main dish we tried which was great but the lamb has to be my favourite.

Before dessert we were presented with a pallet cleanser of pink grapefruit foam and a lime crisp; it was so, so good – we would happily order this as a dessert.

Now here comes the piece de resistance, maple roasted peach with vanilla and raspberries – pure joy. While the presentation is stunning, the peach was roasted gently and kept the softness and freshness of a fruit. LOVED IT.

Alimentum has a fixed-price menu (£29 for three courses and £21 for two courses), and 7 or 10 course menus. It’s a hidden gem for a romantic meal, a celebratory get-together or as a corporate dinner venue.
