I’m a little undecided on how worthwhile New Year’s Resolutions actually are. I think it is great to have a goal and a challenge to motivate you but it can also set you up to fail with unrealistic expectations.

Growing up I would write at least 10 completely unachievable things I wanted to do the following year in the shiny new diary from my Christmas stocking. It was fun. It wasn’t serious. But a week later I almost always forgot them.

While 2014 was beyond amazing for me, it was also a very testing time and I learnt some very valuable lessons about myself, family and friends. So, I will set a few New Year’s Resolutions for 2015. I eat healthy (ish) and exercise regularly so my goals are all about making positive lifestyle changes and moving out of my comfort zone.

1. To visit a new place once a month. It doesn’t need to be a new country, although that would be pretty cool, just a city or town. And actually learn something about this new place.

2. Follow my intuition and learn to say no.

3. Get back to reading one book a week.

4. Surround myself with positive, happy and inspiring people.

5. Meditate more. It’s good for the soul.

6. Stop caring what people think. Let negative people go!

7. Be more spontaneous. Create LESS lists.

8. Cook a new recipe a few times a month.

9. Shop and eat locally with independent businesses.

10. Leave my phone in my bag over dinner.

11. Donate food. And my skills.

12. Gift people experiences rather than presents.
