I haven’t written a beauty post in a while, so here goes… My current foundation routine.
£ Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Foundation
££ MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
£££ Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth Effect Foundation
We’ll start with the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation as this is the one I wear Monday – Friday. As an affordable drug store/high street foundation it is really good quality and I love how it sits on my skin. But only when I’ve applied a good layer of moisturiser. So here is the thing, when I apply it on top of moisturiser I am left with a glowing, kind of dewy effect which is so hard to achieve with combination skin. And I love it. But I often *hate to admit this* can’t be bothered with moisturiser and when these lazy days happen, this foundation needs a little waking up. It’s kind of dull and lifeless and really needs layering up to achieve a good coverage.
It is a good foundation for during the week when I leave my face quite simple as it basically evens my skin tone out which is all I really want it to do when I’m working.
Weekend day time sees me slapping on MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid Foundation. An oldie but a goodie. The scent takes me back to uni in Birmingham when I used to hop, skip and jump to the Bull Ring and rush to Selfridge’s MAC counter to spend my student loan. My friend Shreena introduced me to MAC and it’s been a love affair ever since.
The foundation… It is such a good coverage with quite a thick consistency but I find I have to brush on my NARS pressed powder a little more than usual. This is the foundation I go for if I want to look like I have foundation on, if that even makes sense? You know what I mean. Also, I probably wouldn’t wear this without eye makeup (at least a few coats of mascara) as my face just feels half finished. The reason I don’t wear this when I go out at night is the fact that it makes my face appear white in photos when a flash is used. For this reason, it is not particularly selfie-friendly.
So, my night foundation of choice is the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth Effect Foundation. I wore this on my wedding day for a reason, I love it. The consistency is so lightweight and the liquid blends into a soft, matte texture – perfect for combination skin. At the same time, you really need to use a good moisturiser with this foundation if you have combination skin as it is perfect for the oily parts but a little too light on the dry parts.
The coverage isn’t amazing with just one coat but it builds up really well and sets perfectly with pressed powder. And the final result? A fresh, flawless finish that leaves my face looking made up but not caked in foundation.
