My previous posts on Zimbabwe talk about village life and Victoria Falls but we also went on a morning safari which is, without doubt, my favourite holiday activity of all time.
Victoria Falls is home to some of Africa’s most wonderful animals and you’ll regularly see elephants aimlessly wandering through the town, warthog gangs creating havoc in hotels and monkeys gallantly bouncing around. While visiting Victoria Falls we booked a morning game drive with our hotel and were picked up in an open safari jeep early the following morning.
It was freezing cold, so wear layers! But my gosh, the sunrise was stunning and set us up for an exciting adventure in the bush. We saw antelope, elegant giraffe and searched endlessly for a tiger but it was probably too cold for them.
My favourite moment had to be spotting elephants further ahead crossing towards the river. It was a mesmerising experience to see these animals living in their natural habitat. As we approached they were a little angry but then we did interrupt their peaceful morning walk.
I named this elephant Ellie, she is the subject of the most striking photo I have ever taken on the little iPhone.
The morning safari was the best experience, so much more fun than I ever imagined and a lifetime memory I’ll be talking about for years to come.
