Lisbon – an affordable city break and hen party destination

When set with the task of organising a hen weekend in Europe, I never even thought of Lisbon. Barcelona was at the top of the list but the costs were a little too high.

I had a look at Portugal city breaks thinking a little Winter sun in March would be perfect for outdoor cocktails. Lisbon seemed ideal and it delivered. As a city break Lisbon is incredibly affordable but has culture, cute cobbled streets, impressive architecture and some lovely sights. Basically everything you want for a few days away.

I booked The Lisbonaire Apartments and flights with EasyJet which worked out at approximately £150 each for two nights.

The Lisbonaire Apartments are centrally located and close to a tram stop, high-end boutiques and restaurants. A short five minute walk uphill takes you to a more traditional area of Lisbon with amazing views over the city. Even in March with unpredictable weather it was warm enough to sit outside for lunch and snuggle up with blankets.

The apartments have all the mod-cons you need for a short break including a well-equipped kitchen and a rooftop terrace. In the basement you’ll find a huge open space with a lounge area, dining table and fitness equipment.

I also researched a few restaurants beforehand and so pleased we visited Leitaria Camponeza. We visited a much more high-end restaurant on the first night close to the marina but I felt the food was mediocre and over-priced whereas Leitaria Camponeza surpassed all expectations. The restaurant is located close to the main shopping area and is cosy and welcoming with wonderful owners. Try the hanging meat or fish skewers – it’s a fantastic dining experience!

We spent a day wandering through the old town and cobbled streets which are so unbelievably cute and picturesque. One evening we visited a nightclub (the Portuguese dress much more casual than us Brits and clubs don’t get busy until gone midnight) and another night on a boat trip. You can do so many activities that cost far less than other more popular city breaks!

Lisbon is the perfect destination for a hen weekend but also for families and couples. I wouldn’t be surprised if I visit in the future with my husband.
