Bed Head for Superstar Mahooosive Hair

So, while I lived with my Nan, who always  had stocks of Kerastase, I could indulge in more expensive hair supplies but as soon as I left I knew I had to find a more affordable brand.  I used Dove as a student (and still do in the gym) but a hairdresser friend told me that the typical high street brands like Dove and Pantene simply strip the hair, with Head and Shoulders as the ultimate culprit.  I often use Head & Shoulders if my hair colour has gone too dark to strip the colour!

I now use Bed Head Superstar shampoo and conditioner for thick, massive hair.  Now I personally don’t think this brand is as good as Kerastase but it is slightly more affordable and most salons will have deals, I pay around £19.99 for both.  My colour is protected, my hair definitely increases in volume, is left silky smooth and the conditioner really provides that necessary nourishment.  If you want thicker hair, I definitely recommend trying the superstar range!

A Thousand Splendid Suns

I was recommended A Thousand Splendid Suns by a friend and it was so incredible, I read the book within a week.  This is a story of the harrowing life of two extraordinary women living in war-ridden Afghanistan.  Starting with Mariam as a young child, shunned by the father she so deeply doted on, she was forced into an arranged marriage full of misery.  However, it was the second wife Laila that offered some happiness in Mariam’s life.  The growing friendship between the two main characters – Mariam and Laila – touched my heart.  Through the poverty, suffering and pain, their spirit and love became something stronger than any companionship I have ever witnessed in life.  The second prominent part of the book is the relationship between Laila and Tariq which proves to be the very essence of true love.  The story switches from brutality and horror to love and hope.  Written so well, I became so enthralled with this book that I found myself praying for some sort of happy ending, which sadly turns out to be bitter sweet.  Beyond amazing.  This is a book I will never forget.

An Arabian Princess

Princess is a true story detailing the life of a Saudi Arabian Princess, the life behind the veil.  Of course this is anonymous, that is given, particularly due to the cultural constraints in most parts of the Arab world.  However, this story is so heart-wrenching, it opens your eyes to the depths some countries, cultures and religions go to, to protect their beliefs. Women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive.  Women are not allowed an education (although I think this is slowly changing?).  Women who commit adultery are stoned to death.  Read Sultana’s life from her childhood to becoming a wife and mother and her continuous glimmers of hope.  Luxury doesn’t mean freedom.  Freedom doesn’t mean travelling the world, it could literally be having a choice.  A story that will make you laugh, smile, giggle and cry and evoke feelings of happiness, anger, confusion and hope.  I loved this book and will definitely be reading the next two.

Festive Sparkle

I love anything that sparkles with glitter, sequins or beads and the high street is swarming with glittery shoes, dresses & accessories.  Get ready for the festive season and add some sparkle with a pair of beautiful glittery shoes.  I love the above -dreamy- Christian Louboutin Lady Peep Pumps and Miss KG’s Precious peep toes.  I normally buy a pair of KG’s, Carvela or Topshop shoes for nights out but as this type of shoe will really only get worn over Christmas, I decided I would only buy some that were £50 or less.  As luck had it after running through Next today to get to my car before the dreaded ticket man did, I stumbled across a fab pair for a bargain £28. They are black glitter, super high, platform peep toes and perfect for parties, dates & dancing.  Slightly dubious about the quality and comfort but for £28 I don’t expect too much.  Spread the glitter lovelies.x

Vintage Beauties

After walking around Britain’s Next Top Model Live 2011 last week we found a fab vintage stall by Sally’s Jewellery.  From beautiful beaded bracelets to sparkling necklaces, there really was a treasure chest of vintage delights.  I have found the website which seems to be ‘in progress’ but do check it out as there is some lovely pieces on there already and at really reasonable prices!  They will also be at Clothes Show Live in Birmingham this year so keep an eye out.  I love the necklace above and it’s only a bargain £7! www.sallysjewellery.co.uk
