I had the most amazing weekend celebrating the wedding of a dear uni friend. It was the traditional Indian wedding ceremony, followed by the most exciting wedding reception filled with love, laughter, tears of happiness and A LOT of fun!

Indian weddings are so colourful, warm and happy. And I LOVE wearing a saree. I am so in love with the exotic.

A few days before I had a little henna to get into the wedding spirit.

I won’t post any personal photos of the day as I think weddings are private. But just peek into the reception room – it was breathtaking. So much gorgeousness – even the guys were seriously impressed!

PS – How gorgeous is my friend Natalie?!

For the morning ceremony I wore this deep purple/wine coloured saree with gold detailing that I bought from Soho Road in Birmingham. I teamed it with quite simple makeup and a silver bindi.

In the evening I changed into this gorgeous hot pink lehenga saree that I found on eBay for a bargain £17. A lehenga saree is essentially a long skirt and blouse with the shawl that can be draped in so many different ways – here I draped it in my own way as I didn’t want the shawl to hang low down at the back.

The blouse was too big so I attempted to tailor it myself. I cut it straight down the back into a backless shape, took it in and added silver ribbon for the hem – which worked perfectly with the silver beads.

I also added a lace modesty panel to hide my bra.

I’m quite proud of this little DIY project as this kind of saree is normally very expensive!

I backcombed my hair a little and added a pearl headpiece. The earrings and necklace I have worn with a saree previously so they’re becoming my go to jewellery for this kind of look.

I complemented the saree with far too much eye makeup (from the Bobbi Brown smokey nudes eye palette), bangles and high heels.

It’s so much easier wearing a lehenga rather than the traditional saree as you don’t need to worry about pleats or tripping over the fabric!
