So, facial serum? I initially found the whole concept of facial serums a little confusing. When should it be applied? Why should we use it? Is it even necessary?

IMO serum is a product worth investing in for an instant radiance boost. It leaves skin fresh and rejuvenated and really sinks down to the deeper layers of skin.

I received a sample of the BIOEDDECT EGF Serum in my beauty advent calendar and started using it late December. At this time my skin was probably the worst it has ever been – full of blemishes, dry and oily. The joys of combination skin.

I hadn’t been following my skincare regime, I was unwell and the weather was pants. I tried the BIOEFFECT Serum for a few days – patting it on my skin rather than rubbing it in – and noticed a difference almost immediately. I fell in love. My dull, lifeless skin started to glow again, particularly on my forehead. That glow, oh that gorgeous glow, I cannot reiterate enough how radiant my skin is after using the BIOEFFECT Serum.

The serum is formulated with Epidermal Growth Factor that naturally activates cell regeneration, slowing the aging process and boosting skin health. It’s quite a remarkable statement to make but I do see how it plumps the skin and thus, making it appear more youthful. I don’t think I’ve used any other product that has just felt so fresh on my skin.

It felt like an expensive, luxurious product so I carried on using it for 3 weeks before looking at the price. I just didn’t want to be disappointed if it was too expensive for me to purchase. And guess what? It sadly is way above my budget. At £125 for 15ml it is crazily expensive. I loved it. I’ll cherish the last few drops from the bottle. But unfortunately I won’t be buying it.

And then….

I needed an affordable option that lived up to my high expectations. So I tried the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Fortifying and Soothing 24hr Hydrating Care Serum that was kindly sent to me to review.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Fortifying & Soothing 24hr Hydrating Care Serum

Firstly, the price. It is much more affordable at £19 for 30ml. The Vichy serum looks like a gel but is lightweight and silky, feeling very fresh on the skin.

The added ingredient of Vichy Thermal Water replenishes my dry skin and leaves it incredibly hydrated. Most importantly, it gives my skin a subtle glow that looks kind of dewy under my matte foundation. The perfect balance for combination skin.

Of course I would much rather BIOEFFECT but the Vichy serum is the ideal affordable serum solution. It is very much a part of my skincare routine now and works perfectly with my La Roche-Posay products. The glass bottle also looks far more expensive than the typical high street packaging.

A little advice: I think the general rule with serum is that less is more. A little amount goes a very long way.
