I’ve always gone a little OTT when it comes to planning birthday activities for my husband; he’s one lucky and often spoilt man.

For his 30th birthday I wanted to do something a little different, definitely not a night out in a club as he does that all the time as a DJ. After considering a few different options I went with a camping party, aptly named Gingebury Festival.

We only had a small group but he loved it and appreciated the whole outdoor experience. I even managed to keep it a surprise until the morning of his birthday!

I booked for us all to stay at Karma Farm, an eco-campsite in Isleham Fen, approximately 15-20 minutes from Cambridge. It is on a working farm in beautiful, peaceful surroundings – you actually feel like you’re in the country, in the middle of nowhere! You can either stay in a yurt, cabin or your own tent but if you’re not quite an outdoorsy person just yet, like me, go for a yurt! It is simple but perfectly adequate with a double bed, a mirror (because even in the wild you may wish to add a little bit of makeup *hides head in shame*) and you also have access to a cute little kitchen set up in a wooden hut.

There is also an onsite games room, hot showers and toilet facilities. We took Cecil’s field at the top of the map and put up a tipi style marquee I brought with me – kind of an investment as I can definitely use it again! Under it I set up a table with plenty of food – we had bagels on arrival, a BBQ lunch, warming chilli in the evening, birthday cake, popcorn and melted marshmallows.

I also set up a little Bindi Bar where guests could add some sparkle to their faces or try the coloured hair chalk. A few of us played a mini version of rounders and even had a photoshoot in the traditional wagon!

I think my favourite part was definitely sitting around the campfire late at night, playing games, melting marshmallows and just embracing the outdoors!

Gingebury Festival was a success!

PS: I am wearing Hunter wellies with an off-the-shoulder white lace maxi dress from ASOS which is annoyingly now on sale to £23.50!! (link).
